Dojo Etiquette.

When entering the Dojo a standing bow is required. Lean forward from the hips approximately 15 degrees. Entering the mat area proper, a full kneeling bow is required. Should you have cause to leave and return to the mat, a standing bow is necessary. The instructor is referred to as SENSEI. The Dojo Sempai or Dan grade as Mr. or Sr/Sra. Having had personal instruction a polite bow and a thank you Sensei or Sr. should follow. Finger and toe nails to kept short. Kigogis clean. Sandals to be worn to edge of the mat. No alcohol to be consumed prior to or on the day of practice. No jewelry to be worn on the mat. Ladies make up minimal. Late arrival, enter Dojo as usual. Stand on the edge of mat and wait for acknowledgment from the instructor. A full kneeling bow is required. All weapons to be kept at right hand side of Dojo. |
SHO SHIN KAN is the name and motto of the school, not the style as in, 'Tomiki style' Aikido.
